Career history

“The most important thing in my career is the variety; I’ll never turn down a chance to do something new and challenging.”

Since receiving a 1st class degree from Leeds College of Music Jon has lived and worked in Leeds as a freelance musician in a myriad of musical areas. As well as playing for dance at NSCD, Northern Ballet, and for RAD exams, Jon is always up and down the country playing in various theatre shows, on festival stages and with jazz groups, pop bands, and orchestras. Notable credits are with professional touring musicals of HairsprayAnnie, and 7 Brides for 7 Brothers, and performances with Matt Monro Jnr, Gloria Gaynor and Jack Jones.

Professional Activity and Research Interests

Current projects at the top of Jon’s priority list are running the show ‘Up On The Roof’, a celebration of the music of James Taylor and Carole King, and working with the London Elektricity Big Band, which toured European festivals over the summer 2017. His main area of research interest is how to get 300 miles across the country every weekend without getting stuck in road closures and traffic jams(!).

When Jon is not behind a piano he can often be found behind a camera lens or up a hill in the Yorkshire Dales – or indeed both.
