Accommodation

Accommodation Info 201718 (updated 27th Apr) (click to open pdf)

It is important to us that we know that all our new students have read the accommodation information and that we know how many people to expect at the House Hunting Day.  Please could all 2017 entry students complete the very short form via the link in the above document. Thank you.

We would also like to emphasise that securing accommodation local to NSCD typically happens much later than in other areas in Leeds where university students tend to live.   If you search the UNIPOL website now you won’t find any local properties advertised yet; this is because they all go up at the end of May/early June after our current students and their landlords have updated UNIPOL.  You will see that there are many properties in Woodhouse and Hyde Park and, although these areas do not seem far from NSCD, public transport from those areas to NSCD is not straightforward.

Please be reassured that there is a plentiful supply of local property that our students are able to secure each year and often do so right up to just before the start of the course in September.

You do not need to contact NSCD with your accommodation address, as and when you arrange it, as we will request this information in your enrolment form.

Please contact Admissions with any questions: admissions@nscd.ac.uk

Programme Handbook

A link to our Programme Handbooks with be posted here in May.  These will contain all the module details and academic conventions etc.

Student Handbook

Please see this page for the 2016-17 Student Handbook. The 2017-18 Student Handbook will be available at the start of your course in September.

In the meantime please see the following information in response to a few enquires:

Clothing Requirements

A few people have been in contact to ask about dancewear.  Styles and colours of dancewear are student choice but please ensure that you have read the relevant section in the Codes of Conduct & Practice (click to open pdf)

Private Health Insurance

NSCD is committed to provide a safe and healthy environment to train dance artists but the NSCD courses and assessments can be physically demanding. In addition, dance skills by their very nature include elements of risk including injury. Whilst we take reasonably practicable measures to reduce or eliminate these risks, it is not possible to eliminate them all.   As part of our Student Services support we provide a substantial contribution to a range of agreed injury rehabilitation therapies, should they be required, for an agreed number of sessions.  Students will be required to pay a contribution to these therapies and for this reason we would encourage you to consider taking out private health insurance to support you with any medical treatment that you may require. Health care can be obtained free of charge from the NHS but waiting times for treatment are unpredictable and may result in disruption to and interruption of your studies. Long periods of absence may result in you being unable to complete the course.

NSCD is unable to recommend insurance schemes but a useful resource is Dance UK

Bursary Information

Each year NSCD distributes a number of Bursary Awards to students who have to live away from home to complete the course.  Depending on your age the bursaries fall into different categories and the amount awarded for each of these bursaries is based on household income.

In recent years students with a verified family income below £25,000 and have been awarded approximately £70 per week in term time to help meet their living expenses and smaller awards were made to students with family incomes up to £50,000.

The Residential Bursary application form will be posted here shortly.

We also have a Hardship Fund that some students access each year to assist with daily expenses.  Access to this fund is also based on household income.  Further information will be posted here shortly.
