Accommodation

Accommodation Info 201718 updated June 2017 (click to open pdf)

Presentation given by UNIPOL at the NSCD House Hunting Event: UNIPOL House Hunting 2017 NSCD (click to open pdf)

Enquiries about properties should be made directly to the contact details in each advertisement on the UNIPOL website (see presentation above about how to search).  The landlord/agent will be able to provide information about the property, about who else is living in the house and will either be able to pass on the contact details of a current occupant/NSCD student (if they have given their permission) or pass on your contact details to them.  Please also check on our Facebook Group as some of our current students will post details there if they are looking for housemates.

We would also like to emphasise that securing accommodation local to NSCD typically happens much later than in other areas in Leeds where university students tend to live.  Please be reassured that there is a plentiful supply of local property that our students are able to secure each year and often do so right up to just before the start of the course in September.  Please note: You will see that there are many properties in Woodhouse and Hyde Park and, although these areas do not seem far from NSCD, public transport from those areas to NSCD is not straightforward.

You do not need to contact NSCD with your accommodation address, as and when you arrange it, as we will request this information in your enrolment form.

Please contact Admissions with any questions: admissions@nscd.ac.uk

Programme Handbook

A link to our Programme Handbooks with be posted here in August.  These will contain all the module details and academic conventions etc.

Student Handbook

Please see this page for the 2016-17 Student Handbook. The 2017-18 Student Handbook will be available at the start of your course in September.

In the meantime please see the following information in response to a few enquires:

Clothing Requirements

A few people have been in contact to ask about dancewear.  Styles and colours of dancewear are student choice but please ensure that you have read the relevant section in the Codes of Conduct & Practice (click to open pdf)

Private Health Insurance

NSCD is committed to provide a safe and healthy environment to train dance artists but the NSCD courses and assessments can be physically demanding. In addition, dance skills by their very nature include elements of risk including injury. Whilst we take reasonably practicable measures to reduce or eliminate these risks, it is not possible to eliminate them all.   As part of our Student Services support we provide a substantial contribution to a range of agreed injury rehabilitation therapies, should they be required, for an agreed number of sessions.  Students will be required to pay a contribution to these therapies and for this reason we would encourage you to consider taking out private health insurance to support you with any medical treatment that you may require. Health care can be obtained free of charge from the NHS but waiting times for treatment are unpredictable and may result in disruption to and interruption of your studies. Long periods of absence may result in you being unable to complete the course.

NSCD is unable to recommend insurance schemes but a useful resource is Dance UK

Opening a Student Bank Account

You may wish to open a student bank account during your studies at NSCD and for this you will need an official letter from the school proving your status as a student. Should you wish to set up a student bank account before you enrol, please contact your bank beforehand to see if they will accept your unconditional offer letter for this. Should they need further information than what’s on your unconditional offer letter, please contact studentservices@nscd.ac.uk.

Should you wish to set up a student bank account after you have enrolled, please email studentservices@nscd.ac.uk or drop by Student Services to request a bank letter, stating the bank you wish to use and the branch address you will be setting up the account at.

Bursary Information

Each year NSCD distributes a number of Bursary Awards to students who have to live away from home to complete the course.  Depending on your age the bursaries fall into different categories and the amount awarded for each of these bursaries is based on household income.

In recent years students with a verified family income below £25,000 and have been awarded approximately £70 per week in term time to help meet their living expenses and smaller awards were made to students with family incomes up to £50,000.

The Residential Bursary application form has been emailed to students joining this course.  We also have a Hardship Fund that some students access each year to assist with daily expenses.  Access to this fund is also based on household income.   Please contact the Accounts Team if you have any questions about these: accounts.nscd@nscd.ac.uk
