BODHI PROJECT returns to Leeds with a daring evening of dance.

Each year the company commissions choreographers at the forefront of the international scene. This year is no exception, with works from renowned artists Lisi Estaras and Maria Campos/Guy Nader.

Intense emotions, and raw forms of expression are behind No Human No Cry by Lisi Estaras. Drawing from Art Brut and the wild avant-garde performances of Valeska Gert (1892-1978), expect material that rejects convention.

Maria Campos and Guy Nader have created Routes, a physically complex piece that demands precision. Six performers attempt to continually defy gravity.

BODHI PROJECT is a postgraduate Artist-in-Practice dance program run by the Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance (SEAD). Exceptional students tour internationally as part of a professional company year.

Tickets:£8/£5

About the choreographers

Lisi Estaras

Lisi Estaras studied dance in Argentina and at the Rubin Academy of Music and Dance in Jerusalem, before joining the ranks of the Batsheva Dance Company in Tel Aviv. In 1997 she moved to Europe and joined les ballets C de la B, creating and performing in works such as Bartime with Einat Tuchman. She has directed Patchagonia, Bolero, The Gaza Monologues, and her latest piece The Jewish Connection Project.

Lisa’s minimalistic dance vocabulary finds a balance between fragility, uncertainty and hope and gives the audience space to explore their imagination. In each of her pieces, Lisi creates a new universe.

Maria Campos and Guy Nader

GN | MC is an ensemble between Guy Nader and SEAD alumnus Maria Campos. They have been commissioned by various European companies such as EnKnapGroup (Slovenia) and Tanzmainz (Germany) and were awarded the German theatre prize DER FAUST for their work Fall Seven Times. They share an interest in high physicality and the strength and delicacy of the body.
