Attending a Centre for Advanced Training open day is essential if you’d like to be considered for a place on the scheme. Open days will take place on:
• 11th March 2017
• 20th May 2017
• 27th May 2017
Open days will be 3 hours in length and will take place during a morning or afternoon session at Northern School of Contemporary Dance (NSCD).

Potential students will have the opportunity to take part in a contemporary technique class and a creative session. Previous dance experience is not necessary as we are looking for young people with enthusiasm, potential and commitment to training as a contemporary dancer. Audition Requirements

Auditions will be held over 2 days: 10th June and 17th June 2017. You will only be needed for one of these days. A letter will be sent out prior to the audition detailing which day you need to attend and more specific times and venue details. If you have a preferred date please state this on your application form.

Audition Process

Every candidate will be required to take part in a Contemporary technique class and a Creative session. All candidates will then be asked to perform a short pre-prepared 1 minute solo (see below for further details). Following the solos some candidates may be asked to stay behind for a short interview.

Solos

You are required to plan, prepare and perform a 1 minute dance solo. This needs to be prepared prior to the audition day and will be performed on stage in front of the audition panel. Please consider the style and music content carefully as you are auditioning the Contemporary dance strand of Yorkshire Young Dancers. Audition Preparation sessions will be provided for candidates to help create their solo. More information will be provided nearer the time.

Offer of a place and reservations

Final selection will be made after the auditions on Saturday tbc and Saturday tbc 2016. All candidates will receive a decision in writing within 2 weeks of the auditions taking place.

Appropriate dress

Please wear leotard/unitard and dance tights and/or loose fitting clothing i.e. tracksuit and t-shirt (at some point you may be asked to take off any loose fitting clothes). All classes are done in bare feet. Please ensure that hair is tied back and any jewellery removed.

Catering

You will be required to attend the audition for most of the day. Please bring with you, a packed lunch, water and any other refreshments you may require, as this will not be provided.
Please note NSCD does have a café where you can purchase drinks and snacks.
