A five day summer school delivered by Northern School of Contemporary Dance (NSCD).
An energetic, fun and challenging experience for young dancers aged 12-18 years and adults aged 18+ (advanced level, including dance students and graduates).
£150 for the five days.

The summer school will feature a daily contemporary dance technique class followed by a range of creative sessions. Participants will work alongside dance artists to devise a piece which will be performed on the final day as part of an informal sharing in the Riley Theatre, NSCD.

Young participants aged 12-18 years will be split into open-level groups according to their age. Adults aged 18+ will be in the advanced level group (including dance students and graduates.)

NSCD does not currently provide accommodation for the Summer School. NSCD is located close to Leeds City Centre with a range of accommodation, including Premier Inn and Travelodge.

NSCD Summer School 2017 Tutors
Anna graduated from the Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance in 2005. Anna is a current dancer for Tavaziva Dance, company dancer since 2007. She was Rehearsal Assistant for Tavaziva 2009 – 2010, and Project Manager/Leader 2014-2016, coordinating the Company’s youth dance programme. Anna has previously worked as a dancer with Motionhouse for their world Premiere UK tour of ‘Broken’ & 2015 ‘Broken’ UK tour, Neville Campbell, Shobana Jeyasingh Dance Company, Pair Dance, European Ballet, MaxwellDanceProject and ‘Dance in Focus’- collaboration between English National Ballet and dance photographer Chris Nash.
Anna formed her own dance company Watkins Dance Company, in 2011. She was awarded funding from Grants for the Arts, Arts Council England in 2012 for production ‘Angled Eye’ and in 2014 for a Research and Development project creating new work for a future national tour.
Anna has been commissioned as a choreographer for English National Ballet – Dance Journeys 2016 & ENBYouthCo, Third Row Dance Company, New College Youth Dance Company, Suffolk Youth Company, LSC Expressive Arts, Dance City – 3rd year BA Degree Course, CAT – YDA Swindon, Dance City Newcastle & DanceEast Ipswich. Technique classes for CAT at Dance4 – Nottingham, Shuffle Youth Company – The Place, Rambert School, DanceEast – Ipswich CAT, Suffolk Youth Company, YDA Swindon and various professional classes.
Matt began dancing at the age of 17 whilst studying A-Level performing arts. He then went on to train at Northern School of Contemporary Dance (NSCD), graduating in 2005. He completed a UK tour with Verve, and went on to complete a postgraduate diploma at London Contemporary Dance School (LCDS), touring internationally to France, Denmark, Sweden and Portugal with EDge in work choreographed by Trisha Brown and Siobhan Davies. Upon graduating from LCDS Matt joined Yael Flexer’s Bedlam Dance Company and toured as part of her production of Doing, Done and Undone. Matt joined Retina Dance Company in 2006 for their graduate project PAGE1 and has since toured internationally to Belgium, Germany, Ireland and South Korea with the following productions: The boy who never grows old, This is not a Body, Relative Danger, Antipode, La Lutte, Layers of Skin and Corporalis. In 2010 Matt joined the staff at NSCD as Education and Community Dance Worker (later Learning & Participation Officer) and since 2014 has been a Lecturer in Performance, teaching contemporary technique, partner work, improvisation, choreography and repertory.
Toby was a member of Scottish Dance Theatre (Janet Smith) for 8 years. Touring the UK, Europe and beyond. Performing works by choreographers including Liv Lorent, Rui Horta, Hofesh Shechter, James Wilton, Ina Christel Johannessen, Kate Weare and Rachel Lopez De La Nieta. Toby danced with Norrdans (Mira Helenius Martinsson) in Sweden, for 3 years, touring Sweden and Europe. Performing works by choreographers including Ohad Naharin, Marcos Morau, Thomas Noone, Yossi and Oded, and Fernando Melo. Toby has freelanced with Emma Martin Dance (Dublin) and with Yossi Berg and Oded Graf Dance Theatre (Israel). Toby is a current member of balletLORENT joining in summer 2015 for Snow white which toured across the UK and now is in creation for Rumpelstiltskin. Toby now also teaches at dance institutions and companies including NSCD, Rambert School, Scottish Dance Theatre, NDCwales, Phoenix Dance Theatre and open pro classes in the UK and Sweden.
Tory trained at London Contemporary Dance School, graduating with a 1st Class BA Honors degree. During her training Tory performed in works by Kerry Nicholls, Henri Oguiku, Richard Alston, Jiri Kylian and a reworking of Jeremy James ‘My Big Pants’. In 2006 she toured nationally and internationally with the Postgraduate Company Edge in work choreographed by Trisha Brown, Siobhan Davies and Sue MacLennan. Tory was a member of Retina Dance Company from 2006 -2009, under the artistic direction of Filip Van Huffel. Tory also co-directed and choreographed for Retina Youth Company and RAUW, Retina’s site specific performance event for the community. She has also worked with Victoria Fox for Underground7 Dance Theatre, Zoielogic Dance Theatre and Jam Jar Dance Theatre. She has taught on the Centre for Advanced Training (CAT) at DanceEast, Northern Contemporary Dance School Summer Intensives and for Shobana Jeyasingh Dance. Tory is currently the Rehearsal Director of Scatter, the adult performance company of The Place as well as Hampshire Youth Dance Company (HYDC). Holding a PGCE, she also works as a Dance Specialist working with several schools and colleges across Hampshire. Her company ‘Overground Fusion’ and HYDC have represented the South East and South West regions at U Dance for Youth Dance England. Tory is also an approved GCSE set phrase trainer as well as a regular guest teacher for The Place, Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts, London Studio Centre, Greenwich Dance Agency and the University of Winchester. Tory became an Animateur for Rambert Dance Company in 2015.
