Joan Clevillé's Plan B for Utopia

On Friday 13 November Riley Theatre presents Plan B for Utopia; a playful dance theatre work by Dundee-based company Joan Clevillé Dance. Charismatic performers Solène Weinachter (Scottish Dance Theatre, Gecko) and John Kendall (balletLORENT) explore the notion of utopia and the role that imagination and creativity can play as a driving force for change in our personal and collective lives.

“You have a plan, and then you don’t. You have a dream, and then you wake up. You fall in love, and your heart gets broken. The question is, do you pick up the pieces and try again?”

Joan Clevillé Dance aims to create intimate works that are honest, original and thought-provoking, inviting audiences to share the performers’ enquiry about themselves, each other, and the world we live in.

During Joan’s time at NSCD he will be drawing from his experiences as a dancer, teacher and rehearsal director and teaching two professional classes. (Thursday 12 and Friday 13 at 9.30am-10.45am) Joan’s class combines somatic and improvisational elements with set exercises and movement combinations. Through the use of imagery, it encourages movement from within the body and a sense of organic flow. Attention is given to efficient use of weight and development of musicality, movement articulation and presence. The class is organised progressively, finishing with dynamic phrases and jump sequences across the space.

Joan will also lead a talk An Overview of the European Dance Landscape, at 5.30pm on Thursday 12 November. Tickets can be booked at NSCD reception for £2.50. If you have purchased a ticket for the performance entry is FREE.
