POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMMES

Thank you for your interest in applying for a course at NSCD. We welcome all applicants regardless of disability, ethnicity, gender, sexuality or religion. We audition all applicants and our audition process is designed to assess your potential as a dance artist and your suitability for our courses.

MA Dance and Creative Enterprise applications are open until 20th May 2018.  Applications after this date may be considered.

We are now closed for 2018 entry MA Performance applications.  2019 entry information will be posted here in September.

What do I need to know before I apply?

Course Information & Entry Requirements:
MA Dance & Creative Enterprise

NSCD welcomes applicants to the MA Dance & Creative Enterprise who have:

  • A strong interest in creating and devising movement based artworks
  • An enthusiasm for the business skills which are associated with being a producer (project management, fundraising and marketing)
  • A desire to learn about and implement the production of dance works in a variety of settings
  • An awareness of where these works sit within the wider artistic landscape
  • The ability to contribute in a performance capacity to artworks created either by yourself or others with a high level of artistic and technical skill
  • A curiosity to investigate aesthetics and context
  • The ability to work well as part of a team in a variety of roles

How do I Apply?

MA Dance & Creative Enterprise applicants do not need to attend an audition but instead need to submit examples of their work online.

Step 1: Apply 

Make an on-line application by Sunday 20th May 2018

Please note that if you have already made an application for the MA Performance courses you do not need to make another application; simply proceed to Step 2.

  1. Select the MA course that you are applying for.
  2. Personal Details (name, contact details etc)
  3. Most recent place of education
  4. Highest qualification level you expect to have completed by course entry
  5. Equality and Diversity Information (ethnicity, disability and household income).
  6. Submit your application
  7. There is an application fee of £50 which is payable via PayPal once you have submitted your application.
  8. After you have submitted your application you will receive an email confirmation which includes a link to the on-line submission formPlease check and save this email.

Step 2: Submit your work

Submit links/uploads to your work, as outlined below, by Sunday 20th May 2018 

  1. Your CV
  2. Filmed footage of one or both of the following (Please note: we do not require any professional editing of your filmed footage):
    • Choreography: an extract of your choreographic work (2 mins-10 mins max)
    • Creative work: improvisation based on a task of your choice to be made clear to the audition panel within your filmed footage (max 5 minutes). The improvisation must demonstrate different choices of movement, qualities and dynamics.
  3. An academic submission of 1000-1500 words to include the following areas:
    • What is your approach, as a dance maker, to the creation of your work?  This could include ideas and concepts, questions around identity, the qualities, structures and forms you apply.
    • If this work was to translate from the studio to a small scale production, what are the issues you think you need to consider as a producer?  This could include project management, resources, funding and marketing.
    • Your reasons for applying to this course.

Please use references of current theories of practice to support your writing and include a reference or bibliography in a Harvard style.
