Our five day summer school is an energetic, fun and challenging experience for young dancers. Take daily contemporary dance technique classes and explore your creativity as you work with a professional choreographer to create a piece.

NSCD’s summer school is split into the following age groups:

  • 12-13 years
  • 14-15 years
  • 16-17 years
  • 18+ years (advanced level, including dance students and graduates).

Please be aware that while NSCD’s Summer School classes for young dancers are an open level, they are designed to be challenging. We recommend that participants have attended dance classes before coming to our Summer School to gain the most from it.

Bursaries

Groups

Participants are split into groups of 25.

  • 12-13 years; 14-15 years; 16-17 years: open-level groups split according to age
  • Adults aged 18 and older: Advanced level group for professionals, dance students and graduates

Schedule

The summer school features a daily contemporary dance technique class in the morning, followed by creative sessions in the afternoon working alongside a professional dance artist to devise a piece, to be performed on the final day as part of an informal sharing in the Riley Theatre, NSCD.

Accommodation

Unfortunately NSCD is unable to provide accommodation for Summer School participants, and those travelling from further afield will need to arrange their own accommodation for the week.
NSCD is located close to Leeds City Centre and a range of affordable accommodation, including Premier Inn and Travelodge.
