Throughout the year, the Learning & Participation team offers workshops and courses on-site at NSCD, in our local community and further afield across Yorkshire. Some of these are listed here but others happen throughout the year when exciting opportunities arise.

Northern School of Contemporary Dance (NSCD) are hosting their annual Community Dance Platform on Saturday 17 March 2018.
We are inviting community groups including school, youth and adult groups to perform dance work they have created at NSCD’s own Riley Theatre. We are particularly interested in groups who meet/work in Chapeltown, Chapel Allerton or Harehills (our local community) and in Leeds City Centre.
This is a great opportunity for community groups to perform work they have created in a professional dance theatre.
The platform is becoming a popular event and we may not be able to accommodate every group with an opportunity to perform therefore please indicate your interest as soon as possible. Please note that pieces cannot exceed 5 minutes in length and be aware that you will not be able to wear shoes or trainers on the stage at Riley Theatre.
This year, priority will be given to groups who will not be performing in Yorkshire Dance’s Fresh, so please consider carefully the group/piece you would like to put forward.
Please submit completed application forms by Friday 19 January 2018.
For more information, contact Tom Bowes on firstname.lastname@example.org or call 0113 219 3005.Application Form
Each year we host a variety of dance workshops and continued professional development (CPD) opportunities for dance artists, teachers and students, as well open sessions for specific age groups.
Examples of previous workshops include:
The Learning & Participation team can also offer bespoke workshop packages across the Yorkshire region. These are designed to meet your project objectives, budget and time requirements, and can range from single workshops to one-off projects or longer-term programmes.
If you are a school the workshops can be linked to the curriculum and to specific topics – we have recently delivered workshops integrating Dance and Science for Primary Schools, supported Arts Week activities, delivered GCSE dance choreography workshops and arranged visits to Riley Theatre to watch our Access, Undergraduate and Postgraduate dance students perform.
Whether curriculum-based, out-of-hours provision or teacher-training, our Learning & Participation team will work with you. Please contact Tom Bowes on email@example.com to discuss your requirements.
“The Workshop supported development of GCSE and A Level students regarding technique and creativity. It also developed students’ social skills working across year groups.” Teacher of Dance and Drama
NSCD’s postgraduate performance company VERVE also offers workshops to secondary schools and colleges during the course of their Spring tour. These workshops are based on current works from the tour and include a warm up, repertory and creative task supported with a resource pack for teachers.
