15 February 10 - The Verve dancers are gearing up for the premiere this weekend at The Riley Theatre. Michael Schumacher is coming back this week for a final rehearsal of his work and to watch the performances. We look forward to welcoming him back to Leeds!
4 February 10 - The tour print has arrived today. All of the dancers look amazing on the photos, and we have a 22 date tour listed on print. All becoming very real now!
22 January 10 - Verve are in technical rehearsals for 'Come rain or come shine', the last piece of the repertory jigsaw. We then say good bye to Laila, wishing her luck on her next project, working with Sir Peter Hall.
9 December 09 - Watch the David Zambrano 'conversations with choreographers' film at www.youtube.com/northernschool to see what Verve have been doing in Amsterdam.
1 November 09 - Today Verve has a photoshoot with Brian Slater to produce some images for venue brochures. Then they will be flying straight off to Amsterdam to begin rehearsing with David Zambrano. Originally from Venezuela, David is currently resident in The Netherlands where he is a major name on the European dance scene.
17 October 09 - Laila Diallo is in Leeds today performing her duet Sense of Self at The Riley Theatre. Laila, a former dancer with Wayne McGregor|Random Dance recently described as "a rising star" by The Observer, will return to Leeds in January to be the final choreographer to make work for Verve10.
14 October 09 - Photographer Brian Slater has been in rehearsals today, taking shots of Kathinka Walter's piece. Look out for the photos online soon...
12 October 09 - This week Verve will be participating in contact improvisation workshops with a visiting lecturer. These workshops will help the company to develop their trust in each other, as well as expanding their knowledge of improvisation techniques.
07 October 09 - Selina Nightingale, the costume maker, is with us today doing costume fittings for Luis's piece. Since Luis was here rehearsing with the dancers, Selina has been busy creating his vision of loose, pedestrian clothing in neutral colours with worn out underclothing.
29 September 09 - Robin Howard Dance Theatre at The Place presents Last Touch First created by Jirí Kylián with Michael Schumacher 8-9 October. Michael will be at NSCD in November/December to create his work for the Verve 2010 tour. This performance at The Place focuses on three couples and unfolds like an eerie, slow-motion Victorian melodrama. On this project Michael has worked with the world famous choreographer and previous director of Nederlands Dans Theater, Jirí Kylián.
16 September 09 - Verve 2010 begin their first creative period, with Venezuelan choreographer Luis Lara Malvacías. Luis has forged a strong relationship with NSCD having tutored our students on the collaborative arts module, producing some wonderfully distinct and memorable work. We welcome him straight from New York to produce what we're sure will be a visually stunning work.
