LUCY RUTTER

Dancer

“I dance because it timelessly communicates what words are incapable of, allowing you to move and be moved. Through it I have found my voice, so without dance the world would grow quiet.”

Lucy (she/her) started dancing locally in Surrey and Hampshire before attending the Centre for Advanced Training at The Place. These formative years saw her perception of dance shift, having been fortunately exposed to a myriad of contemporary dance artists, such as Richard Alston Dance Company, James Pett and James Cousins, performing externally with Ballet Lorent and Yorke Dance Project. Alongside this, she joined Stopgap’s non-professional company SG Troop, inspiring her to promote inclusivity in her own practice. Later, Lucy joined the National Youth Dance Company, touring the work of Sharon Eyal across England, before commencing her training at Rambert School and then Trinity Laban, graduating with a first-class honours degree.

During her training Lucy also performed works by 2Faced Dance Company, Julie Cunningham, Frantic Assembly, Alison Curtis-Jones, Joel Brown (Candoco) and Kennedy Muntanga Junior.
