MAX DERDERIAN

Dancer

"I dance because it is teaching me the strength in being gentle. It is a never ending challenge, one that makes me feel beautiful and connects me to different parts of myself. I think this helps me believe in beauty and relate to different kinds of people."

Max Derderian was born in Rhode Island, USA, where he began dancing around the age of 5. He went on to study dance at Marymount Manhattan College, where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a concentration in modern dance. During his training, Max had the opportunity to perform works by Kyle Abraham, Robert Battle, Andrea Miller and Jo Strømgren- as well as perform at The Joyce Theater with Marymount Manhattan College Dance Company. He has attended Springboard Danse Montréal under the direction of Alexandra Wells, performing works by Shannon Gillen Lapinski and Victor Quijada. Max was a part of the 2020 BODYTRAFFIC Spring Residency with Anouk van Dijk and a contributing member of the MMC Student Outreach Program. His training has also led him to work with The Barton Sisters, Alexandra Damiani and Stacey Tookey. Max is excited to continue on with his journey and experience his dancing evolve with time.
