Important information

MAKING YOUR APPLICATION

The application form is available on this page until the final closing date.

Places at our auditions are limited so we recommend early submission of your application to guarantee your preferred audition date/time. We are unable to guarantee an audition if places become full before the closing dates.

Our application form asks for:

  1. Personal details
  2. Place of academic education
  3. Qualifications
  4. Place of dance education
  5. Headshot photo
  6. Personal statement (250 words)
  7. Solo video link (1 min 30 secs)
  8. Equality & Diversity information

Please read our application guidance below for more detailed information:

> READ APPLICATION GUIDANCE

Once you submit your application you will be redirected to book and pay for your Stage 1 Audition (subject to availability). Applications without an audition booking/payment will not be processed.

You will also receive an email confirmation from admissions@nscd.ac.uk. Please check and save this email. We recommend you add this email address to your contacts to avoid emails going into your junk/spam folder.

SOLO SUBMISSION

The solo submission is intended for you to evidence your individuality and demonstrate to us what you are most confident in. However we understand that applicants may be facing specific challenges during this time which affect their ability to film and submit a solo as part of their application.

If you are able to creatively adapt your solo to your available space and record it, or have existing footage, we are happy for you to submit this. However if this is not possible, we ask that you simply insert a link to the Stage 1 zoom audition phrases instead (https://youtu.be/GMCPSv5Ur5k), since a link is required to submit your application.

It is important to note that all applicants are invited to take part in a Stage 1 zoom audition, and will therefore not be disadvantaged if they are unable to submit a solo– we fully understand that these are unprecedented times and will therefore be flexible.

Please email admissions@nscd.ac.uk if you have any further concerns about your solo submission.

APPLICATION FEE

The application fee is a one-off payment of £20 when you book your Stage 1 Audition. No further fee is required as part of the audition process.

Audition fee waiver scheme

NSCD is an affiliate of the Conservatoire for Dance & Drama (CDD), who offer a number of audition fee waivers to undergraduate applicants from the UK with low household income. Places are limited and so early application is advised. Fee waiver applications are made direct to CDD below:

> APPLY FOR A FEE WAIVER

IMPORTANT: This scheme has more applicants than can be offered places. To ensure that all of the allocated waivers are used, please ensure you make your NSCD application within 4 weeks of receipt of the waiver otherwise the fee waiver will be reallocated to another applicant.  It is therefore advised that apply for a waiver at such point that you will have filmed your solo within this timescale.

If awarded a fee waiver, CDD will inform us. We will then contact you to either confirm a refund of your fee payment or provide a promotional code for you to use at checkout (if you haven’t already booked your audition).

STAGE 1 AUDITION - ONLINE

We want to see all applicants and so invite everyone to attend a Stage 1 Audition.  All applicants, whether in the UK or overseas, take part in this audition online; you do not need to travel to NSCD for this audition.

We ask you to watch and learn two set contemporary phrases in advance.

> WATCH THE PHRASES

Stage 1 auditions are online via zoom and are held as a small group audition. They involve a creative icebreaker workshop (watch an example) and a chance for you to show us the contemporary phrases you have learnt (above). You’ll need a webcam/front-facing camera phone to join the audition and a space roughly 2m x 2m in which to move. You’ll receive an email with a zoom link prior to the audition date.

By taking part in an undergraduate zoom audition you are agreeing to the NSCD UG zoom audition risk assessment and disclaimer

STAGE 2 AUDITION - IN PERSON / ONLINE

Shortlisted applicants from Stage 1 are invited to Stage 2. We get back to all applicants with an outcome approximately two weeks after their first audition. Some candidates may be invited to a Stage 2 audition for the Certificate of Higher Education (CertHE) in Contemporary Dance if we think you are more suited to this course.

We are providing two options for your Stage 2 Audition; either in-person* (at NSCD), or via online submission. Each option involves the same creative, contemporary, ballet and discussion sessions.  There will be no disadvantage to choosing the online audition as the audition panel have many years’ experience of this method of audition.

*Please note: All candidates at these auditions are required to wear masks.  NSCD has protocols and procedures in place to limit the risk of COVID-19 transmission within our building(s); further details will be provided to those who are shortlisted. If on-site auditions at NSCD are not possible due to enhanced lockdown measures, all applicants will be required to submit an online Stage 2 audition, details of which can be found below.
