About the Choreographers

Joan Clevillé

Joan is Artistic Director of Joan Clevillé Dance, a company whose inaugural work Plan B for Utopia has been performed over 75 times to audience and critical acclaim across Scotland, the UK, Europe and Argentina. Joan was recently appointed as Artistic Director of Scottish Dance Theatre and has worked for over 15 years as a dancer and rehearsal director in companies including Lost Dog.

For VERVE, Joan has worked with the dancers to create Team V, a playful and humorous work exploring the physical and poetic connections between breath, speech and the body.

Maxine Doyle

Independent artist Maxine Doyle has been Associate Director and Choreographer for Punchdrunk since 2002, co-creating multi-award winning works including Sleep No More (London, Boston, New York, Shanghai). She has an MA in Choreography from the Laban Centre and has worked for theatres including The Globe, National Theatre and Old Vic and brands such as Luis Vuitton and Selfridges. She is currently collaborating on the Film London Microwave feature film Mari starring Bobbi Jene Smith.

For VERVE, Maxine has drawn inspiration from the words of performance poet Kate Tempest to create 4:18, an emotionally visceral work with a drive to communicate and connect.

Ben Wright

Ben Wright is an independent choreographer, director and educator and Artistic Co-Director at Candoco Dance Company. He launched his own company bgroup in 2008, creating works including The Lessening of Difference and Point of Echoes. He has choreographed for companies and theatres including Skånes DansteaterThe Royal Opera House, and The National Theatre, and danced for the likes of Richard Alston and Mark Morris.

For VERVE, Ben Wright has created the sea tells a story, a physically sumptuous work exploring stillness, solitude and our shared humanity.

Noa Zuk and Ohad Fishof

Noa Zuk and Ohad Fishof are collaborative artists based in Tel Aviv, Israel. Noa trained at the Batsheva Dance Company under the artistic direction of Ohad Naharin, and Ohad Fishof is an interdisciplinary artist who has created internationally-touring dance pieces, soundscapes and video installations.

The pair have created numerous works for screen and stage such as The Nothing Trilogy, presented in Russia, Canada, the USA and Israel, and the quartet Garden of Minutes, premiered at Curtain’s Up Festival in Tel Aviv. They have worked with Frontier Danceland (Singapore), Inbal Dance Company (Israel) and more.

Noa Zuk and Ohad Fishof restage their work Shutdown, originally created for Wee Dance Company (Germany). Expect pulsating rhythm and movement which veers between the ferocious and the delicate.
