Who can attend?

This Easter intensive is recommended for dancers aged 14 – 18 years at an intermediate level / with a developed understanding of dance technique. You may be part of a CAT scheme, youth dance company, or attend evening dance classes on a regular basis.

You don’t need to be a student at NSCD to attend.

What does the course involve?

Each morning includes a technique or improvisation class followed by a repertoire class where you will learn material from works by international choreographers KOR’SIA, Faye Tan and Jamaal Burkmar.

Afternoons include creative and choreographic sessions in an inspiring studio environment, where you can test out ideas and work collaboratively with people with a shared passion for dance towards a performance at the end of the week.

Students will also have the opportunity to watch excerpts of work, learn more about VERVE and find out more about what the future could look like for them in the world of dance.

Meet your course leaders

The course is led by experienced alumni from the postgraduate dance company of NSCD, VERVE, all of whom have worked with exceptional practitioners across many movement practices in the development of their artistry. Meet your tutors.

VERVE is the in-house company of Northern School of Contemporary Dance. Each year the company commissions choreographers from around the world to create a bold and inventive new programme of dance work, touring nationally February – May. Find out more about VERVE

You’ll also have the chance to meet VERVE Curriculum Lead, Matteo Marfoglia, who believes:

“Dance is a creative dialogue, which I believe everyone should feel a part of.”

What work will the course be based on?

Throughout the week, you’ll push the boundaries of dance by exploring contemporary choreography from the 2023 VERVE tour:

The Garden by KOR’SIA

No endings and no beginnings by Faye Tan

An Evening With… by Jamaal Burkmar

Will I have the chance to perform what I create?

On the final day of the course, after creating and rehearsing throughout the week, everyone on the course will have the opportunity to invite friends and family to see them perform on stage at Yorkshire’s largest dedicated dance house – Riley Theatre.
