What does the Union do?

As a student at NSCD, you are automatically a member of NSCD Students’ Union. This means that you can join and take part in any Union event, activity or society. The Union is here to enhance your student experience and represent your voice. If you would like to hear more about what the Union is up to or suggest something that you would like to see us work on, keep your eyes peeled for our next scheduled General Meeting, or check out our social media pages!

Everyone has the option to opt-out of membership to NSCD Students’ Union. To find out more about the Union or how to opt-out, follow the link to our Constitution (coming soon).

SU staff

SU Manager – Zara Lee (she/they)

Zara began their studies with Northern School of Contemporary Dance in 2016 on the CertHE Contemporary Dance course, progressing on to the BA course where they graduated in 2021. During her time as a student, Zara was pivotal in establishing our first student-led societies and very involved in our conversations on developing the curriculum.

Within their role as Students’ Union manager, they will manage the day-to-day running of the Union. Zara is excited to see the Students Union grow and blossom with Finlay Copland as the SU President. Together are already making exciting plans for SU managed events and activities, holding student meetings, supporting the growth of student-led societies and amplifying the student voice.

Zara will also be maintaining their work as a freelance dance artist with an interest in creative processes that allow collaboration and a feeling of play.

SU President 2021/22 – Finlay Copland

“This role is a fantastic opportunity to build interpersonal and organisational skills. As Student Union President you have the opportunity to push for positive change, which is exciting.

Don’t be afraid to really push for the things that students need. The Student Union Manager and Student Services are there to support you.

Good luck to those who are applying and I’m excited to see how the Union will continue to grow and establish itself!”
