Here at Northern School of Contemporary Dance, we recognise the vital role that qualified, well-informed and inspiring dance teachers play.

For individuals considering dance teaching as an option, we offer an MA in Dance Teaching and Facilitating – which can help boost your career and take it to the next level.

If you’re passionate about teaching and want to delve deeper into it, gain new insights plus experience in real-life teaching contexts, then this might just be the course for you.

Let’s take a look below at some of the key features of this unique course:

1. Different Perspectives:

The MA Dance Teaching & Facilitating is for anyone with an existing dance practice in contemporary, ballet, commercial or street styles. Whether you are just at the beginning of your teaching career or an established teacher looking to develop your existing skills, the course thrives on bringing perspectives from different backgrounds and levels of experience together.

All students work very collaboratively with one another throughout the course of the year to offer peer-related feedback alongside the feedback from experienced NSCD tutors and host mentors whilst on placement.

2. Diverse Placement Opportunities:

Your learning journey can include the option to stay in one placement throughout the course of your studies or the opportunity to experience multiple placements in various teaching/facilitating environments. This depends on your interests and whether you have already defined your teaching practice or wish to explore different contexts, allowing you to discover your preferred approach as you progress.

3. In-depth Curriculum:

Our MA robustly combines practical teaching experience on placement with a solid theoretical foundation in teaching concepts and approaches. While the majority of valuable learning happens on external placement, lectures and seminars happening here at NSCD cover a broad range of relevant aspects including curriculum design, assessment design, regulatory frameworks, how best to give student feedback and applying different teaching strategies to different scenarios.

4. Flexible Study Options:

Choose to study full-time for the duration of one year or part-time over two academic years. If you’re already in employment or trying to juggle study with additional work or caring responsibilities, we give you flexibility to develop in a way that makes sense for your personal situation.

5. Supportive Professional Community:

Experience a nurturing and creative learning environment that encourages innovation. Students on all our MA courses become part of a vibrant community of dancers, educators and industry professionals, enhancing future career opportunities. And once you graduate, you’ll join a network of alumni who have made a significant impact in the field.
