NSCD is committed to offering an educational exchange programme for Higher Education students, staff and institutions.

Exchange opportunities for NSCD students

NSCD supports its students to take part in a range of international opportunities with overseas partners in Europe, the US and Uganda. We have secured Turing Scheme funding for 2025/26 and 2026/27, which helps students take up these opportunities.

We are also pleased to have been awarded an Erasmus Charter for Higher Education from January 2027, and we expect to again be able to take part in the Erasmus+ programme from 2027/28.

Applying to study at NSCD as part of an International Exchange

The NSCD academic year has three terms. Students can apply to spend a period of study at NSCD, joining Year 3 of the BA (Hons) Contemporary Dance Performance programme. The best time for an exchange in Year 3 is November to March, as this gives access to the full range of modules.

The deadline for all applications to study in 2027/28 is 31st March 2027.

We select exchange students based on footage of their work (as a web link) and a covering letter. Applications should include:

Up to 5 minutes of ballet technique work, including extracts of barre, centre and travelling.
Up to 5 minutes of contemporary technique work, including extracts from static, centre/dynamic and travelling.
A solo dance of about 1.5 minutes that includes elements of contemporary dance.
A creative/improvisation dance task, to assess your creative and choreographic skills.

Your letter should explain why you are applying to NSCD.

Our cohorts are small, so NSCD can take no more than 2 exchange students each academic year. Competition for places is high.
