Northern Colour is a strand of NSCD’s Artist Development programme, made possible with funding from Arts Council England as an NPO (National Portfolio Organisation).

Artist development programmes at NSCD have already supported several dance makers, with many going on to successfully develop and tour their work. See previous artists.

We are looking for artists of the global majority with a vision to develop their work, increase their visibility and enhance their creative voice within the sector and across the North of England.

The opportunity

  • £4,000 all-inclusive bursary/fee to develop your creative practice (choreographic, movement or cross-artform)
  • Feedback & mentoring through NSCD and Artistic Consultant, Joanne Bernard
  • Opportunity to platform or share your work in any setting
  • Support from NSCD including networking & marketing support (if applicable)
  • Opportunity to build relationships with organisations & creatives across the North

 

Criteria

The panel considers applications for Northern Colour that meet the following criteria:

  • The lead artist is freelance, mid-career and from the global majority (click here for what this means)
  • The lead artist is based in the North of England and can evidence this
  • Each company member/performer is over the age of 18 and is able to provide proof of their eligibility to work in the UK
  • The applicant can commit to the timeframe for Northern Colour (September – December 2024) with all activity to be concluded by January 2025 at the latest

  • basic contact information (full name, email address, location and website – if you have one)
  • a statement (written or recorded)
  • your CV
  • video link(s) to examples of your work if available – or share your vision and what inspires your work
  • A draft budget and explanation on how you would spend your £4,000 Northern Colour bursary

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to interview to discuss your practice and ideas further with the panel. Specific feedback will be available from this stage, if requested.
