FAYE TAN

Company dancer at National Dance Company Wales

Faye completed the MA Contemporary Dance Performance (Verve) in 2016 and danced for Frontier Danceland, Singapore

“VERVE has been one of the best learning experiences in my life so far. It gave me a lot of confidence (the people around me, and Leeds, also played a huge role) and taught me how to recognise and work on my weaknesses and develop my strengths. The works that we were performing in VERVE, as well as the guest teachers, also gave me extremely valuable and important performance and physical skills that I'm still using and developing today.”

After graduating from VERVE Faye Tan first became a company dancer with Frontier Danceland (Singapore) for three years, then joined NDCWales in the summer of 2019. Before joining NDCWales she worked with Richard Chappell Dance (UK) on Silence Between Waves, performing and working with local residents of various ages and abilities in Devon. Choreographers that Faye has worked with on new creations include Shahar Binyamini, Thomas Lebrun, Tung I-Fen, Edouard Hue, Alexandra Waierstall, Fearghus O’Conchuir, Anton Lachky, Christopher Bruce, Anthina Vahla and Efrosini Protopapa.

She has undertaken guest choreographic commissions at School of The Arts Singapore and Frontier Danceland, and created several independent and dance films which have been shown in film festivals in the UK such as Dance Film Festival UK and the London Short Film Festival.

Her work in dance includes education and outreach, most notably through leading youth training programmes, namely Frontier Danceland’s Pulse programme and as an interim Learning Lead Dancer for the Associates programme of NSCDWales.
