James graduated from the BPA (Hons) in Contemporary Dance in 2016.
James Rosental met opera director Barbora Horakova during a third-year collaboration project with Leeds College of Music while studying at NSCD. Since graduating, James and Barbora have worked on five opera productions together, with four more productions lined up over the coming seasons including a reworking of Carmen.
"I have to thank NSCD for opening up fantastic collaborations for me and having the confidence in me to take on so many engagements during my training."
James’ choreographic debut, Corridors, was performed as part of Youth Dance England’s Young Creatives programme at the Royal Opera House, and then at The Lowry and the West Yorkshire Playhouse.
Since then, James’ work has been performed in renowned theatres such as Casa des Artes, Portugal (Chapter), Opera National de Lyon, France (La Belle au Bois Dormant), Teatro Arriaga, Spain (Dido & Aeneas), Wuppertaler Bühnen, Germany (Luisa Miller), and Theater an Der Wien, Austria (L’enfant de les Sortilèges).
In addition to his choreographic work, James has continued to develop his performance skills, joining EDGE Dance Company at The Place for their 2016/17 season and performing in Rosie Kay’s 10 Soldiers and Robby Graham’s Beautiful Thing for Greenwich + Docklands International Festival.
