Shirley graduated from The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, majoring in Ballet, and later completed a Master’s degree in Cultural Studies at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. She joined City Contemporary Dance Company (CCDC) in 2010, where she developed a substantial career as a performer and Rehearsal Mistress, working across contemporary dance productions, interdisciplinary theatre, family-oriented performances and international touring projects.
As a performer, Shirley has collaborated with internationally recognised choreographers including Sang Jijia, Helen Lai, Xing Liang, Kim Jae-duk, Ina Christel Johannessen and Natalie Weir. Alongside her work with CCDC, she also performed with Hong Kong Ballet and Hong Kong Dance Company during her training, contributing to a broad range of professional dance contexts across Asia and Europe.
Shirley is also a dedicated educator with extensive experience teaching children, young people, pre-professional dancers and community participants. Her teaching practice has developed through youth training programmes, professional workshops, outreach initiatives. She has taught for the Gifted Young Dancer Programme (GYDP) at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, the youth programme at CCDC, NSCD Summer School 2026 and the Centre for Advanced Training (CAT) at Northern School of Contemporary Dance.
Her choreographic practice is informed by her background in cultural studies and explores memory, identity, human connection and embodied experience. Her works include Imprisoned (2014), Human Research Lab (2019), Rebug(2022) and Sliding into Heart (2024). Through her artistic and educational practice, Shirley is committed to creating inclusive, thoughtful and meaningful learning environments where movement, creativity and lived experience can meet.
