We’re excited to announce that NSCD is one of just 163 UK higher education institutions to secure the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE), only 9 of which offer dance in the North of England.
This means that, from 2027, NSCD will be able to participate in the Erasmus+ programme, opening up exciting opportunities for students and staff to develop their learning and professional experience through international mobility and collaboration.
Securing the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education is an important step in developing NSCD’s international opportunities.
It supports our ambition to give students opportunities that extend beyond the studio and classroom, connecting their training at NSCD with the wider international dance and creative industries.
Erasmus+ is the European Union’s programme supporting education, training, youth and sport. For higher education students, it can provide opportunities to study, train or undertake a work placement abroad, helping participants gain international experience alongside their studies.
For students at NSCD, this could mean the opportunity to experience dance and creative practice in a different country, meet artists and students from different backgrounds, and develop new perspectives that can inform your own practice.
Erasmus+ currently supports opportunities across all 27 EU member states, as well as countries including Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Türkiye, North Macedonia and Serbia. Some projects can also involve partner countries beyond these locations.
One of the key benefits of Erasmus+ is that funding can help make international opportunities more accessible.
For eligible mobility projects, Erasmus+ funding can contribute towards costs including travel, living expenses, course fees, visa and entry costs and language learning. Additional funding is also available for people with disabilities, additional learning needs and those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
The exact opportunities available to NSCD students, including destinations, activities, eligibility and funding, will depend on the Erasmus+ projects NSCD participates in and the programme guidance for 2027.
Whether you’re interested in performing, choreography, teaching, producing or developing your own creative practice, experiencing dance in another country could give you new ideas, connections and experiences to take into your future career.
Erasmus+ funding applications are expected to open in November 2026, with further information about the 2027 programme to be confirmed.
