Ayanda Ndlovu Yandass

Dancer, Movement Director and Choreographer Ayanda Ndlovu Yandass is the Founder & Artistic Director of Manchester-based I M Pact Collective and has worked on numerous productions with Hope Mill Theatre, HOME, Contact Theatre, Factory International and Royal Exchange Theatre. Yandass’ South African heritage shines through her work. In 2022 she won the title of Young Creative of the Year at the Manchester Culture Awards.  Her experience in different art forms has resulted in what she terms “an urban theatrical fusion”.

“I’m excited to work with the Northern Colour team towards a dance production that is supported by other art forms that I’ve picked up over the years. The freedom to explore without boundaries alongside mentorship means I can explore and develop my voice as an artist.”

Michaela Wate

Originally from the North East of England, Michaela Wate is a contemporary dance artist with more than 15 years of experience in performance, choreography, and education. Through her creative work, Michaela explores social pressures and hopes to highlight the experiences of women in particular, in ways that positively impact individuals and the wider community.

“This marks a significant moment for me in which I can prioritise my creativity and develop my practice. I am excited and honoured to be a part of Northern Colour and look forward to getting started.”

Xolani Crabtree

Xolani Crabtree is a Leeds-based creative who trained at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance. Their experience as a Movement Director & Choreographer has allowed them to work with The Herd Theatre, Hull Truck Theatre, York Theatre Royal, Leeds Playhouse and Opera North. They have also facilitated work for Phoenix Youth Academy, Geraldine Connor Foundation, Lawrence Batley Theatre, Dark Horse Theatre and Leeds Dance Partnership.

“Northern Colour will allow me to explore and strengthen my craft as a Movement Director & Choreographer. I am so grateful for this exciting opportunity with NSCD who have already impacted my creative journey.”
