Led by Chinese dance artist and teacher Xiaoyi Tong, this course is delivered over 10 days through three interwoven components designed to build connections between language and studio practice, fostering confidence and clarity in communication.

The three components include:

• Dance English Classes – developing dance-related vocabulary, including anatomy, movement elements, action-based phrases, and spatial/energetic descriptions.
• English-led Technique Classes – daily physical technique class taught in English, supported by a live Mandarin translator. A 30-minute reflection session follows each technique class to review key vocabulary, ask questions, and encourage peer-learning through group discussion.
• Artistic Communication Workshops – workshops will focus on the use of English language in artistic expression. Students will participate in collaborative tasks, presentations of work, teaching/rehearsal practice, aiming to build students' confidence and ability to express themselves artistically in rehearsals, classes, peer and tutor conversations.

Suitable for Mandarin speakers, studying dance in the UK at an undergraduate or postgraduate level
