You are required to create an account via our online application portal ‘HEIapply’ to make an application. Once created, you can log in to see the status of any application(s), review your details and view any correspondence. 

Our application form asks for the following:

Company statements (up to 200 words for each company)  – Companies are looking for aspiring dance artists who are passionate about developing a professional career in dance and gaining industry experience. The candidates’ knowledge about the companies’ repertoire is essential to demonstrate their interest, commitment, curiosity, reliability, independence and engagement to commit to the full duration of the apprenticeship.

Once you submit your application you will be asked to book your audition, subject to availability, and pay the application fee of £21.  

Applications without payment will not be processed.

Some companies ask for your application to include specific information, please follow the below guidance:

National Dance Company Wales, Artist-as-Facilitator:
The personal statement should include information on your facilitation experience, what areas of your practice you want to develop through the placement and your reasons for choosing NDCWales.

Showreels should include class material and phrases that the applicant has devised and any footage of the applicant in a class or workshop environment which shows their teaching style. Please note, it does not need to show any participants or students.

If you are applying for multiple companies/strands and you wish to submit a unique showreel for NDCWales, please add the link to this on the bottom of your Company Statement.

TIN Arts, Artist-as-Facilitator:
We would like all applicants to record a short piece to camera including the following information:

Name, audio description of self (a brief summary of your own physical appearance / presentation for those who are visually impaired). your personal connection to dance (eg why you love to dance, etc) and why you are keen to learn more about inclusive facilitation.

This information will be shared with participants attending the audition so that they are familiar with those who are invited to attend.

Phoenix Dance Theatre, Performance strand
– What draws you to Phoenix Dance Theatre, and why is this apprenticeship important to you at this stage of your development as a dancer?

– What are you hoping to get out of the placement with us?

– Phoenix works across current repertory, new creation and varied choreographic voices. How do you approach learning, embodying and adapting to different movement styles in the studio?

– Phoenix values collaboration, individuality and community engagement. How would you contribute to the company environment both artistically and professionally during your apprenticeship?

– Our company dancers also work closely with our Learning & Development team and deliver choreographic intensives to our academy students and deliver workshops. Would this be something that you’d be interested in? Are there any additional skills that you would like to explore i.e teaching, choreography?

Scottish Dance Theatre, Performance strand
We would like candidates to respond to the following two questions in one single video (no longer than 5 minutes):

– Can you describe your artistic and personal interests

– What are you passionate or curious about?

– What interests you specifically about this placement with Scottish Dance Theatre?

The application fee is a one-off payment of £21 and covers the cost of processing applications.

Application fee waivers are available to applicants from low-income households (under £25,000 annual household income).

If you are applying for more than one course you only pay the application fee once.

Candidates will be notified via email when they have been shortlisted for an audition. 

The audition will take place at NSCD or other partner locations where you will experience a range of physical activities, such as ballet, contemporary, improvisation, devising and creating, and learning the company’s repertoire. 

Candidates who are successful at the Company Audition are interviewed at the end of the audition day or online with the Company panel followed by the Programme Lead.

Candidates may also be invited for a second audition at the Company base. This will vary from Company to Company. 

PPS Programme Lead Eric Assandri notes:

“Each participating company is looking for different and particular qualities and experiences relevant to the company; we advise you research your chosen companies so you know what they are about and what they might be looking for.”

• All applicants are notified which  company auditions they have been shortlisted for. 
• Interviews typically take place immediately after company auditions and candidates are notified on the day if they have been selected for interview. 
• Some companies may invite shortlisted candidates to a second audition. This may be at the companies base.
• Offers are made following each company audition, depending on when the company notifies us. 
• Applicants who have not been made offers following the audition will either be placed on a reserve list (in the event further offers can be made) or receive an Unsuccessful Outcome. Please note some companies can accommodate reserve lists and others do not. 
• All candidates have 2 weeks from receipt of an offer in which to decide to accept.

Important 

If you have applied for more than one course at NSCD, or more than one PPS company, and receive an offer for one course and choose to accept this, your application would automatically be withdrawn from the other courses/you would be removed from any shortlists you might be on.
