NSCD+

ABOUT NSCD+

NSCD+ is a partnership programme led by the Northern School of Contemporary Dance, designed to broaden access to high-quality dance and arts education for children and young people. Through collaborations with schools and arts organisations, NSCD+ supports the delivery of cross-curricular learning, enrichment activities, and helps strengthen the provision of the arts within education. By partnering with other dance providers, the programme also works to develop clear and supportive pathways into dance training and creative careers.

At its heart, NSCD+ aims to nurture young talent by offering a strong foundation in dance, while also developing creative thinking, physical confidence, and performance skills. Students are supported throughout their journey, including preparation for auditions and progression into further training. The programme plays a vital role in making dance more accessible and in championing long-term opportunities for young people within the arts.

OUR ACTIVITY

NSCD+ is structured around three key pillars of activity:

  1. School Partnerships – Long-term collaborations with primary and secondary schools that embed dance within the curriculum supporting cross-curricular learning and as enrichment activities. These partnerships help to raise attainment, enrich school life, and cultivate creative expression from an early age.
  2. Group Partnerships – Working with youth and community organisations to support consistent, high-quality dance provision beyond the school day. This includes outreach to underrepresented groups and local dance hubs, ensuring wider access and continued engagement for young people.
  3. Workshops & Masterclasses – A programme of standalone and partner-delivered sessions, including masterclasses and residencies. These may be linked to touring performances and offer young dancers the opportunity to engage with professional artists, companies, and choreographers, inspiring future training and careers in the arts.

The NSCD+ provision is flexible and responsive, offering a menu of activity tailored to the needs of different partners and communities. This may include one-off workshops, termly projects, longer-term residencies, and CPD opportunities for educators.
