Rachel James is the Deputy Principal at Oldham College.
Rachel has danced since the age of 3 as a hobby, trained professionally in musical theatre before moving into Further Education as a dance teacher. This early foundation in performance and creative practice shaped her passion for teaching, learning, and the transformative power of the arts.
Over the years, Rachel has held roles across both Quality and Curriculum at Dudley College and Barnsley College, developing extensive experience in quality improvement, curriculum leadership, and teaching excellence. Her work has focused particularly on creative and technical education, where she led significant organisational improvements across teaching, learning, and assessment, contributing to Outstanding inspection outcomes and wider sector recognition.
Now serving as Deputy Principal at Oldham College, Rachel is committed to widening participation and ensuring that young people from all backgrounds can access high‑quality education. She is passionate about developing outstanding teaching and learning, strengthening progression routes, and supporting staff to deliver ambitious, inclusive education.
I am proud to be a governor at NSCD, an institution with a clear and compelling vision for the Creative Industries.
