Teaching Excellence Framework

The outcomes of the Year Two Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) have been announced by HEFCE, and the Conservatoire is delighted to announce that the institution has received a Gold award. The Conservatoire is one of 59 institutions to be awarded Gold out of the 295 providers who entered the TEF.

The TEF was introduced by the Government to build evidence about the performance of the UK’s world-class higher education sector, complementing the existing Research Excellence Framework with an analysis of teaching and learning outcomes.

The TEF awards were decided by an independent panel of experts including academics, students and employer representatives. Drawing on national data, and evidence submitted by each university or college, the TEF measures excellence in three areas: teaching quality, the learning environment and the educational and professional outcomes achieved by students.

The award follows the outcome of the HEFCE review of specialist institutions in 2016, which confirmed the Conservatoire – comprising London Contemporary Dance School, Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, Central School of Ballet, LAMDA, National Centre for Circus Arts, Northern School of Contemporary Dance, Rambert School, and RADA – as a provider of world-leading teaching.
