Teaching Excellence Framework

We are pleased to announce our overall rating of Silver in the latest Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF). This year we received Silver for Student Outcomes and Gold for Student Experience.

Published by the Office for Students, TEF ratings last four years and are designed to assess the activity, results and experiences of students on undergraduate courses across the country. This year’s result relates to the period 2018-2022.

Speaking of the award, NSCD CEO & Principal Sharon Watson MBE says:

“This silver and gold award holds immense significance for us at NSCD. It serves as a strong validation of our efforts and resounding testament to our unwavering commitment to delivering nothing short of excellence”

Darren Carr, Vice Principal and Director of Studies says:

“This was a rigorous and testing submission process, where institutions and their students had the opportunity to share a snapshot of who they are and what they do, during a period of great upheaval across the sector.

The award of Gold given to NSCD in respect of Student Experience significantly reflects our approach to placing students at the heart of all our decision-making. We were particularly pleased that the panel recognised the ways we listen to our student body, supporting change for the better.

Highlighting many outstanding features, the report is a clear indication that we are doing things right for all our stakeholders.”

In particular, NSCD was praised for:

  • Teaching, learning, course content, feedback and student engagement – all deemed to be outstanding
  • The learning environment, resources and academic support which students access and receive – considered to be outstanding
  • Student engagement in course improvement, rated outstanding
