How to apply

Thank you for your interest in MA Dance Teaching & Facilitating


Entry for this course is by online application, teaching observation and interview. Applicants can choose to be observed and interviewed in-person or by-video. More information below.

Please note: an enhanced DBS check is required for those working with children and young people whilst on placement. This is processed on your behalf by NSCD.


  • Applications close at midnight on 12 February for in-person observation and interviews week commencing 19 February.
  • Applications close at midnight on 20 May for in-person observation and interviews week commencing 27 May.
  • Video applications close midday on Monday 24 June

In-Person

Making your application

Applicants are required to create an account via our online application portal and complete an application. You will need to provide:

  1. Personal details 
  2. Current highest academic qualification
  3. Personal statement (500-1000 words) which addresses:
    1. Your teaching experience to date
    2. Your motivation for studying this course
    3. Your ambitions for the future in relation to teaching practice
  4. A reference 
  5. Equality and Diversity information

Once you submit your application you will be required to pay the application fee.

Application fee

The application fee is a one-off payment of £20 and covers the cost of processing applications.

Instructions on how to make payment will be included in your confirmation email from admissions@nscd.ac.uk

Applications without payment will not be considered. 

 

In-Person Teaching Observation & Interview

We invite all in-person applicants to NSCD for their teaching observation and interview, which take place on the same day.

Teaching observation:

We ask you to deliver a 25-30 minute dance class/workshop that includes both a technical warm-up and a creative exploration. We look for evidence of:

  • clear and appropriate planning
  • considerations relating to safe practice
  • inclusive teaching approaches/differentiation
  • appropriate use of resources
  • general teaching approach/strategies

The level of the taught class is agreed with you prior to your confirmation of attendance.

The interview

Following the taught session we then interview each applicant.  We’ll ask you to reflect on the session you’ve just delivered, ask you to tell us about your experience and ideas around teaching dance, and ask why you are interested in studying at NSCD, and what you hope to gain from the course.

Outcomes

Outcomes are communicated within 2-3 weeks of interview.

 

By-Video

Making your application

  4. A link to a video recording of a class you taught recently (20 – 30 minutes, in English or with English subtitles)
  5. A reference

Video Application & Interview

Video applicants need to submit a link to a 30-minute video recording of a class they recently taught as part of their application. We look for evidence of:

  • clear and appropriate planning
  • considerations relating to safe practice
  • inclusive teaching approaches/differentiation
  • appropriate use of resources
  • general teaching approach/strategies

We contact all video applicants after application submission to arrange an interview over Zoom. During the interview we’ll ask you to reflect on the session in your video, ask you to tell us about your experience and ideas around teaching dance, and ask why you are interested in studying at NSCD and what you hope to gain from the course.

Outcomes

Outcomes are communicated within 2-3 weeks of interview. Video applications are viewed on a rolling basis and therefore outcomes will be communicated as and when submissions are viewed and interviews have taken place.
