ARTIST TESTIMONIAL: AKEIM TOUSSAINT BUCK

Akeim Toussaint Buck is a cross-disciplinary performing artist, born in Jamaica and raised in England. An NSCD graduate, Akeim has worked with Wriggle Dance Theatre, Freedom Studios and Ballet Lorent, as well as collaborating with Leeds Black Elders Association for numerous projects including Leeds Seeds, a community art intervention with children and elders in Chapeltown. His one-man dance theatre show Windows Of Displacement has toured nationally since receiving support from Northern Connections and CATAPULT.

“The creative business advice and management I received through Spin Arts has really helped me, and I value how it is carrying on even after the project. It has informed my practice in business and the development of my brand, and has helped me gain the exposure to the industry that I really needed.

Rehearsal space from NSCD and Dance Studio Leeds was all I could ever ask for; it really filled the need and supplied a perfect working environment. It was very easy to work with the Stage Management team at NSCD for my informal sharing.

The bursary I put to use by investing in future projects and visiting theatres I wanted to connect with to gain a better understanding of their infrastructure. It was imperative for me to have this time and money to explore the industry with no strings attached, and to have the chance to plan ahead for the future.”
